Stories on the Sidewalk 2021

March 13 & 14, 2021

Straight from the mouths of those who were there, Stories on the Sidewalk is a fun, educational walk through history, where colorful and amazing characters from Kern County’s past come alive on the streets of Bakersfield.
Nine stops in downtown Bakersfield will feature actors portraying some of Kern’s most famous and infamous residents, such as Cesar Chavez, Dorothy Donahoe, Rafer Johnson, Father Garces, Fred Maddox, William Hood, Avelino Martinez, Spanish Flu Epidemic, and Dust Bowl Immigrants. These exciting stories of Kern’s rich history, told in riveting, locally written dramatic presentations and performed by local actors, will be right on the streets of Bakersfield.
The journey down Kern’s past will start at the Betty Younger Sculpture Garden (on Truxtun Ave at L Street). Then visitors will walk to some of downtown’s most historic (and some notorious!) locations.
Tours depart every ten minutes and last just under two hours. You will be walking and standing for the entire tour. Sign up for a tour time when purchasing tickets.
