What is Stories on the Sidewalk?
Stories on the Sidewalk is an outdoor walking tour that brings Bakersfield and Kern County history to life through live theatrical reenactments. Stroll through downtown and encounter notable historical figures, local legends, and unforgettable stories portrayed by talented actors right here in Kern County. Created through a collaboration of local writers, historians, theater groups, civic organizations, and downtown businesses, this family-friendly event offers an entertaining and engaging journey into our community’s rich past.
Call for Actors
Stories on the Sidewalk is seeking actors and performers of all experience levels to portray notable figures from Kern County’s past. Through a series of short outdoor performances, actors will engage audiences with stories inspired by the people, places, and events that shaped our community.
Whether you’re a seasoned performer, community theater veteran, or simply someone with a passion for local history, we invite you to be part of this unique living history experience.

Help uncover and tell the stories that shaped Bakersfield.
Stories on the Sidewalk is seeking writers, historians, researchers, and storytellers to develop short scripts based on notable figures, events, and moments from Kern County history. Working from historical research, writers will create engaging vignettes that educate, entertain, and connect audiences with our community’s rich heritage.
