Join the Arts Council of Kern and The Bakersfield Californian as we celebrate 160 years of local journalism with Clippings, a special exhibition exploring the stories, headlines and historic moments that helped shape Bakersfield and Kern County. Hosted in the Arts Council of Kern Gallery, this exhibition will feature enlarged reproductions of some of The Bakersfield Californian’s most significant front pages, highlighting major events, community milestones, influential figures and unforgettable moments from throughout the newspaper’s long history. Guests will have the opportunity to experience these historic headlines on a larger-than-life scale and discover how local journalism has documented the growth and evolution of our region for more than a century and a half. Bringing the stories beyond the printed page, the exhibition will also feature live performances portraying notable figures from Bakersfield’s past. Through a series of short historical vignettes, actors will bring local history to life, offering visitors a deeper connection to the people and events behind the headlines. Discover the stories behind the news and the people who made Kern County history.
